Yipee! 99 cents sushi from Nihon Mura

Friday, October 19th, 2007

My eyes took a double look at the advertisement poster outside Nihon Mura (The Cathay). Sushi @ 99 cents! Being someone who often frequency Sushi Tei, this seems like a good offer. So, after finishing the XXL crisy chicken, along with my friend, I headed for Nihon Mura to feed my hungry stomach.

The ordering system is that we can take anything from the conveyor belt, which are at 99 cents each. We took the salmon skin, the softshell crab roll, the unagi sushi and the salmon sushi. (Each of these would set us back from $2+ to $4 at sushi tei.)

Smilingly, we started with the salmon skin, one of our favourites at Paragon Sushi Tei. Oops. Wrong choice. It is too salty. Fail. :(

Next, the salmon sushi goes into my friend’s stomach. Hmm… not bad, she comments. Pass. :)

Next, the takoyaki, shisamo and subsequently the mekajiki arrives. (There was a mistake for the mekajiki, something else was delivered and a correction had to be done.) These are the ordered food, that cost from $3+ to the most expensive $8 mekajiki.

The mekajiki really makes the day! It is yummy, tasty and juicy. It is so fresh that there isn’t a hint of fishy-ness smell. By the way, the serving consists of 6 slices. We had finished 5 of them before the camera was fished out to take a snap. By the way, I usually do not take uncooked food, but it looks so much like abalone, and since there is no hint of fishy-ness, I took a slice of it. It is really really good.

With the fragrant of takoyaki wafting into my nose, it became my next victim. :) Yammy yammy. It is really very fragant and is good. :)

Next on the list is the softshell crab roll. It is cold and a bit salty. But, for near closing time, the coldness is expected. Salty-ness, hmm… it is not as bad as the salmon skin, that I called it the salted fish. :P

My next victim – the unagi sushi. Surprising, through it look quite plain, it tasted nice. There is hint of sweetness.

Finally, the turn for grill shisamo came. Yes, its comments will also be slightly grilled. It is to0 dry and tough to chew. But, perhaps it might be forgiven as it is grilled and not the usual deep fried version.

So, the recommendations goes to the mekajiki and takoyaki! :)

For those who will only like to fork out 99 cents, go for the salmon sushi and the unagi sushi. Or you might try some of those that I have not tried. :)
