Principal callously ‘advised’ Sec 5 class to transfer to ITE

On the first day of school, a mission school principle, callously ‘advised’ a group of 27 girls in Sec 5 class by an underhand method to transfer out of the school, to ITE.

According to ST, this pricipal claimed that “she was merely trying to give her girls a ‘wake-up call’ when she spoke to them on the first day of school.’ This implies that this principal sees nothing wrong in her action, and that the students results asked for this advise of transferring out of the school to ITE.

She confirmed that she used an overhead projector to display the girls results in class. This act of shaming the student that their results are not good enough, and that she wanted 100 per cent passes in her school, is totally barbaric and shows the determination of the principal to use underhand method of shaming to ensure 100% passes in her school. It is not advise. It is cold, calculated, manipulative move
1) to shame the student into transferring out,
2) to pressurized those who stay on for the time being that if they can’t obtain the 100% pass, they should quietly pack and go somewhere else noiselessly,
3) and to make them feel that the school do not wants them, so that they will transfer or drop out.

This is the fault of Key Performance Indicators in our government agencies. These high level civil servants’ pay and promotion depend on achieving good KPIs.

Every student is just a digit to them.

The ex-soldier minister came out and talked, a lot. The tone was not right but the message is correct. Hmmm… this really reminds you of the way national policies were “implemented” upon on the rest of us.

One of these days, our tone will be very loud but our message to them is very clear.
